Farm Update 4th November 2016

Beef Availability

Now that the weather has turned cold it's not only time to get out the bobble hats and winter coats, but also time to stock up on stewing cuts, mince, and roasting joints for those delicious warming suppers! Having a bonfire party? How about some beef sausages to enjoy on the fire? Northmoor beef is available for delivery throughout the UK on Thursday 17th November. As always, it is available to purchase via our online shop here. Have a look at our range of set beef boxes  or make up your own Pick 'n Mix selection box. Place your order and await delivery of your fresh, refrigerated beef direct to your door. Don't panic if you're not going to be at home ... just let us know a safe place where we can leave it and our friendly delivery driver will drop it there for you to find on your return. It'll even stay fresh for up to 10 hours post delivery! For those of you who just can't wait for delivery, collection from the farm is available on Tuesday 15th November.

Cattle

Don't you just love Autumn - the beautiful misty mornings and evenings, and stunning autumnal leaves! Keep up to date with all our latest photographs of the farm by following us on facebook and twitter. With the weather turning colder and the grass growth slowing right down we have started to bring the cattle back into the sheds for the winter. During the winter months they will be bedded down on lovely clean straw to sleep on and fed on a diet of grass silage and hay. Grass silage is grass which has been cut in the summer and then bailed up into large round bales before being wrapped in black plastic. By wrapping it in plastic it ensures no air can get to the grass and means that the grass ferments making it lovely and rich for the cattle to enjoy eating. It has quite a pungent smell to it but the cattle really do love it! By feeding them this we ensure that the cattle maintain a grass diet all throughout the year. Grass fed beef is super delicious as it has lots of tasty marbling, but it also has lots of health benefits. Click here to find out more.

We mentioned in October's farm update that we had 9 cows due to calve this November. I'm delighted to say that we have already had 2 gorgeous little heifer calves who are doing really well! Check out our social media pages for photo updates!  The remaining seven should calve over the next couple of weeks.
