Wow, what a summer that has been … managing the school holidays childcare, motoring through harvest, launching a new business, and keeping everything alive (including ourselves 😂)! Weather
The weather has been a big focus for us this month (when is it not I hear you cry … and that's a very fair point!). The consistent dry weather has been gorgeous to enjoy. It made hay making incredibly straight forward (as we need the grass to be dry to bale it) and it will hopefully make for a hassle free harvest when we start later in the week. But it does mean we have absolutely no grass for our animals to graze.

We recently saw this quote and it did make us chuckle, as it certainly feels a little bit like that for us at the moment:
‘farming is saying ’but after this week things will slow down a bit' … over and over until you die.'
Not that we're complaining of course, it's just the usual chaos over here … livestock work, new ventures (yes you heard that right, and can learn a little more below!), website developments, hay making, sheep shearing, machinery maintenance, all with a little sprinkling of COVID (yep, after 2 ½ years it eventually got us!). But it's keeping us out of mischief which is always good.

This weekend we opened the farm gates to the public and hosted Open Farm Sunday. Just over 50 visitors came to the farm and enjoyed a 3 mile walk learning more about our farming methods, with particular focus on our move to Regenerative Agriculture. We petted some lambs, wandered amongst the cattle, admired our wild bird seed mixes and wild flower meadows, and were lucky enough to see the curlew who have been nesting in our meadows. It was so lovely to share our little corner of Oxfordshire with our customers and neighbours. Thank you to those who came.
